At Barley Fields we believe in the development of the whole child and that every individual should have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We all work together, alongside parents to identify children who are, or have the potential to be, ‘gifted’ and/ or ‘talented’. Your child might be identified because they show a high level of ability in Maths, English, Science or another academic subject, or they might be identified because they show a high level of ability in art, sport, drama or other activities.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that is both challenging and enriching, that stimulates the children and provides opportunities for pupils to have a voice in their learning. We ensure that the work provided for children is at an appropriate level and that children have opportunities to work collaboratively and independently. Sometimes we are able to offer children sessions working in gifted and talented groups, on different work, outside the classroom.

We have special events throughout the year, such as fitness week, where children get to work outside of the classroom or with other teachers. These events allow children to experience a broader curriculum and apply their learning.

Our wide range of after school clubs also allow children to develop their talents further. Throughout the school, children can choose activities such as sports, dance, arts, or ICT activities.

You can read our ‘gifted and talented’ policy in the policies section of the website.

If you think that your child may have a special gift or talent, please talk to their class teacher.
