At Barley Fields Primary School, we are extremely proud of the outstanding behaviour and positive attitudes consistently demonstrated by our children. Our school is a happy, welcoming place with a warm and friendly atmosphere, where children feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
Our shared approach to behaviour helps create a calm, positive learning environment in which teachers can teach effectively and children can thrive. We have three central aims in our approach to behaviour:
- To promote high expectations for standards of behaviour
- To set clear, consistent rules and guidelines about acceptable behaviour
- To involve staff, children, parents, and governors in supporting high standards of behaviour
From the earliest years, we encourage all children to take responsibility for their actions and to understand the consequences of their behaviour. We aim to develop self-discipline, care and respect for themselves and others, and respect for personal property. Positive actions and appropriate behaviour are regularly praised and celebrated.
When children behave inappropriately, we work with them to understand the impact of their actions and guide them towards making better choices. If concerns persist, sanctions may be used to encourage reflection and parents will be invited to work with the class teacher to develop a joint plan of support.
Bullying of any kind is not tolerated at Barley Fields. We encourage children to speak to a trusted adult or staff member if they experience or witness any form of bullying, so that it can be addressed promptly.
