Pupil Premium Grant
At Barley Fields Primary School, we believe that every child deserves to feel valued, supported, and inspired to achieve their very best. We are committed to providing a nurturing environment where all children can flourish — academically, emotionally, and socially. Through our use of the Pupil Premium Grant, we aim to remove barriers to learning and ensure that every child has equal access to the opportunities and experiences that help them thrive.
The government provides extra funding to schools to help support children in certain key groups. This funding is called the Pupil Premium Grant, and it helps us make sure every child has the best possible chance to succeed and feel happy at school.
Children may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding if they:
- receive free school meals (or have done so in the last six years);
- are currently looked after by the local authority;
- have been adopted from care; or
- have parents who are service personnel.
At Barley Fields, we use this funding to provide extra help and opportunities for children who need it. This may include:
- Extra teaching and learning support – such as one-to-one or small group sessions to boost confidence and close learning gaps.
- Help with emotional wellbeing and mental health – including support from our pastoral team and access to specialist services when needed.
- Encouraging good attendance – working closely with families to make sure every child feels supported to come to school regularly and enjoy learning.
- Opportunities to join in – making sure all children can take part in school trips, clubs, and extra-curricular activities.
- Practical support – such as help with school uniform or other learning essentials.
We regularly track the progress, wellbeing, and attendance of children who receive Pupil Premium support to make sure the help we give is making a real difference.
Mrs Shildrick (Assistant Headteacher) leads on provision for children supported by the Pupil Premium Grant. If you’d like to find out more or discuss eligibility, please contact the school office to arrange a confidential chat with her.
